The challenge
Zencare was operating a real healthcare business on Squarespace and Google Sheets. The arrangement had carried the company further than anyone expected it to, but it had reached the point where every new capability meant more manual work rather than less.
Anything that looked like a product feature — a therapist portal, a patient portal, telehealth — was blocked by the same thing: there was no system underneath to build it on.
What we did
We rebuilt the platform on infrastructure defined as code: Terraform for provisioning, Fargate for containerized workloads, RDS for the database, and ElastiCache for caching.
The point of that foundation was not the individual services. It was that adding the next portal stopped being an infrastructure project and became an application one.
Alongside the build we grew and trained a team of three engineers, then handed the platform over to them.
The outcome
- Telehealth, therapist, and patient portals became straightforward additions rather than rewrites.
- The infrastructure work was a key factor in the company's $15M acquisition — a technical foundation a buyer could inherit without immediately rebuilding it.
